It is with deep regret that Newtown Square Fire Company announces the passing Life Member Benjamin Mitchell Jr.

Ben joined the fire company in 1960 at the age of 16. He served honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and returned home to serve Newtown Square as a dedicated volunteer for decades.

He was a line officer for many years during his tenure and achieved the rank of Assistant Chief. Perhaps most notably, Ben was instrumental in the initiation of the EMT/Paramedic program in Delaware County and was one of the earliest individuals to be added to the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Ben was an indispensable part of Newtown Square's Ambulance as you can see in the photos. Please keep his wife, children, and grandchildren in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
