Fire Police

The Newtown Square Fire Police Unit’s function within the Fire Company is to maintain the protection and safety of Fire/EMS personnel and vehicles while at an emergency scene. The Fire Police Officers job is to insure the protection of the working personnel, vehicles and equipment of the Fire Company. At the same time an officer must insure the safety of the public around a scene.
Traffic Control is the main job of the Fire Police unit. They maintain the follow of traffic around a scene, to allow quick access to the scene of emergency vehicles. Sometimes this requires the closure and detour of a road or highway. Fire Police are Sworn Officers of Newtown Township, and do have the rights of a Police Officer at a scene. Pennsylvania Law Title 75 Sections 3327 and 3102 provides for fines for people who fail to obey Fire Police instructions or indications relating to traffic flow.
The Fire Police Unit also assists the Newtown Square Police Department with Traffic Control, Road Closures, Crowd Control, and DUI Checkpoints. The Fire Police unit works closely with our Police Department, and continues to strive to be an assistant to the Police Department in Newtown Square.
Fire Police are there to provide safety to both the public and Fire Company personnel. When you see a Fire Police Officer please pay attention to their instructions, and signs. And for the safety of the Fire Personnel please slow down and be alert around or through a scene.
