A Community invitation

Far too often the sights and sounds of the Newtown Square Fire Company creates a mental picture of people in danger.  An upcoming community event will help create a pleasant experience.  This dramatic, positive image alteration is the product of non-emergency event.  The Newtown Square Fire Company is celebrating the “new life” of three pieces of Fire Company vehicles.

The fire service has collection of traditions.  One of these special events and concepts is the formal dedication of fire service apparatus. On Saturday, June 19, the community is invited to the 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., formal dedication service that officially places into service a classification of one type of the many tools associated with the life- and property-saving skills and services of these emergency service providers

Each one of this soon-to-be dedicated pieces of Newtown Square Fire Company apparatus has an important, support service identity.  The Rescue vehicle is a special service piece of emergency service, response vehicle.   In keeping with a fiscally necessitated theme, this vehicle was designed to be more than an extrication and other types of emergency service provider.

Chief Doug Simpson volunteered, “When the officers of the Newtown Square Fire Company did a response analysis of many years of rescue activities we could document what we felt was a trend.  In a large percentage of this kind of emergency we saw the need for the accompanying dispatch of a pumper.”

Because of the growing numbers of vehicular accidents and the accompanying danger of fire, a pumper responds as a protection of the actively involved rescuers.  Working within the effects of a fire can create an unwanted stress on these crews.  By eliminating or curtailing this danger, this unwanted stress is eliminated.

This safety concept and the need to address the timetable for the replacement of an existing pumper, this replacement Fire Company Rescue serves a dual purpose.  This current Rescue combines the growing collection of rescue tools as well as a pump and internal water source associated with a single-function pumper.

The second in the trio of Newtown Square Fire Company apparatus that will dedicated on June 19 is a crew-cab truck that will also perform several associated services for the local Fire Company.  The truck bed will be a carrier of a large collection of rolled fire hose, as well as other items that need transferring either from or to a fire scene.   In its utilitarian role, the personnel transporting area can function as a “troop carrier” for firefighting activities.  It also provides transportation of firefighters attending regional fire fighting schools.

The third piece in this soon-to-be-dedicate trio of Fire Company vehicles is yet another special service truck. The safety of fighters at emergency locations is one of the valued services provided by the local Fire Police. These men and women are group of specially trained members of the Newtown Square Fire Company.

They mobile-tool collection has been assembled in truck and cap vehicle.  The internally stored collection of traffic cones, special flashlights, generators (one stationary and one portable) and collapsible, informational emergency highway signs are only a part of the specialty tools carried by this truck.

Paralleling the direction arrows found on roadside detours, a elevated illuminated sign board gives advance warnings to drivers as the near an emergency location.  Another of the “topside” appoints located on this protective vehicle is a light source that can be elevated and directed.

In speaking about this vehicle the Newtown Square Fire Company William Baker added one comment.  Mr. Baker, a college project leader and professor as well as extensive corporate experiences, shared a possible problem with the dedication of the Fire Company’s replacement Fire Police vehicle.  Because of possible unforeseen problems in a construction process of “Just In Time,” the arrival of this new piece of service apparatus appears to be a concern.

With crossed fingers, the members of the Newtown Square Fire Company hope to have three vehicles to share with the “everyone is invited” dedication to be held on Saturday, June 19.  In addition to being valued supporters during this tradition, the community will also participate in the food and other fire service memorabilia.
